After discovering an exploded wheel cylinder, decided to redo the entire rear brake assembly, including cleaning, blasting, and re-coating the backing plate. The final step was to place the brake shoes, and this is where it got interesting. Could not figure out a good way to clip the return springs onto the shoes. Typically springs are in the front of the shoes, so you can use one of those brake drum plier tools. Because they are in the back, it seemed really difficult to figure a way to do it. Thank you for posting this - really useful since I am in the middle of doing mine. My question on the MArtin Robey website here in the UK there are two NLA parts 18 and 19, a spring and a cliip of some description, when I took mine apart I could not see these parts. Do you know if these are essential? Once again thanks for the post Best DAvid Shanahan

Do you know if these are essential? David: You did not say if you have the Girling or Lockheed brakes. If you have the Lockheed, parts 18 and 19 are off the shelf "E" clips, available at any hardware store. It looks like one of them is now available from Martin Robey. If you have the Girling, I would say 18 and 19 are not needed. The Triumph Spitfire uses the exact same brake parts, and they do not use the aforementioned parts. See the attached diagram.
