Is there a listing somewhere on how to rebuild the water pump? I see the Delta has a rebuild kit for it, but before I start I would like to check on how to do it first. If so please post it here.

Hi Matthew, You might check out these links below. I thought about doing it at one time but ended up buying a rebuilt with exchange. The links are for the later, Lotus 912 engine; I'm not certain how different they are from the 907, but the housings look similar and though these aren't detailed instructions, the photos and captions might give you a better idea if you would like to pusrsue a rebuild on your own. You'll of course need a press and I've heard (and read) about aluminum housings getting cracked in the process. Best of luck. Clinton I think my water pump is leaking so Iam going to replace it. What is the best source for a rebuilt pump. Do you know if there are step by step instructions for the pump removal Thanks Dick

You can buy the bearing for $13.10 and the seal for $10.80 from JAE and do it yourself, they even have a tool to set everything for around $35, that way you can go into the re-build business yourself. A new impeller cost about $40 but most of the time you can re-use your old one, or better yet get a 910 impeller rather than the 907 and increase your water volume flow and keep the engine running cooler. (some machining is required to use a 910). Brett

The installation tool simultaneously presses the body and the sleeve in to different depths. The seal can be installed without the tool if you know what you're doing, but it's a pain. Just use the tool and the job is a slam dunk. Some other Lotus specialists sell a seal with an outer rubber skin, and (more importantly) no sleeve to press onto the shaft. They can be installed with any appropriate pusher (a deep well 1/2" drive socket), and the installation tool discussed above does not apply. Regards, Tim Engel

Richard: don't know if you've solved your water pump leak yet, but the 3G seals Tim refers to are the way to go. You will need a press regardless, but assuming whoever rebuilds it please be sure they use the 3G(the seal is totally encased in a metal housing). As for the nose of whatever impeller you use, you can grind it off in a grinder as the nose no longer is necessary to push the type 1G & 2G seals down. (a machine shop would likely have a minimum $50 set up charge/minimum. I use a large carbide surface bit in a drill press). Just be sure you grind off enough to allow the 0.020"-0.030" of clearance so you don't get cavitation. This should last "forever", asssuming you don't over tension the fan belt(adjust when engine is hot)
