Just bought a steering wheel badge for my Feb 1975 JH. However it was too big. Were there different sizes made of the metal insert badges? C

There are two badges, one is rubber and black, the other metal, are you sure it's a steering wheel badge and not the hood one ??. they do run on the large side though thats why alot of steering wheels have chips out of them around the badge. Brett

My 74 mark II #15371 has the black rubber badge on the steering wheel. John Kimbrough's 74 which was #15375 had the metal one. Must have been built around the same time. I never understood why the two different badges. Was it some trim option, or just the British grabing whatever was on the shelf at the time ?

Gary, I always thought it had to do with the early version of the center consul, the one that looks like a tupperware tray all black plastic. who knows for sure. Brett

Forty years back we bought a Mk II (not Tupperware console), and it came with the rubber insert. My impression is that the metal was a later change. My current early '74 Mk II has rubber, my previous '75 had metal. Likely there would have been some overlap around the time of the change. Heck, the Mk II we bought forty years ago had one of the troublesome early engines; records show that out of the blue they stuck early engines (I guess were laying around) in two sequential cars, even though the improved engine was by then the norm.

If the steering wheel is made for the metal badge, it can be inserted...get some good soapy water and slide the badge in place and then with a flat dinner ware knife, prise it in while it is still wet and soapy...then clean it all up..
