While trying to remove the steering shaft with the many u joints, I found it necessary to loosen the steering rack. There I found two bolts holding it in place with heads shaped as in a D. Someone old me that they were that way so they would not turn in the small space afforded and the nuts on the rear had to be loosened or removed...Oddly I found the D head bolts did, indeed, turn whilst removing the nut on the rear of it,,,one wonders..can anyone tell me why these bolts had that odd shaped head, instead of a regular bolt with a six sided head?????
Mine don't turn because the flat side fits against front suspension frame. It worked that way on 4 cars that I have worked on. Although I can see where the interference is marginal and if unlucky with stuck nuts the bolt could turn.
