My project is complete.  I procured a new lower u joint from Martin Robey.  Just getting the part was the hardest task, as I could not complete the transaction with their web page and it took half a dozen calls to complete the purchase by phone.  About $64 US and arrived in less than a week.  Expect some American English/English English communication difficulties.

Replacing the lower u joint and the fire wall bushing took about 2 hours.  Short test drive felt tight.  looking forward to a longer drive.

Thanks to all for the comments.
