Some details on the repop gauges I am using in my restoration.

Technically I am into resto-mod territory since I will also be using an aluminum radiator, and non original colors.

The gauges are 12v, so the voltage regulator can be bypassed by connecting the leads together that would otherwise go to the 10v regulator.

The illumination for the repops is fully compatible with the original wiring harness, so no modifications required. If you wish to use the repop lights, you will need to cut off the original sockets and replace them with spade connectors. Light bulbs and sockets are supplied with the new gauges.

The OP gauge is electric, so you must replace the capillary tube with a wire, and use an electric OP sender.

The gauges are a drop in fit to the instrument panel, and are available with black or chrome bezels and up or down pointing needles. Lead time is approximately 3 weeks as they are shipped from India. Shipping charges were less than $10 US, don't ask me how they get them to the US so cheap.

Vance,

I've never seen an exact definition of "resto-mod" it's kind of like you know one when you see one. If you were to drop an LS6 into the engine bay followed with a fully independent rear suspension and four wheel disc brakes I think you'd be in resto-mod territory. So I'm not sure new gauges and radiator would qualify as a resto-mod especially since the car could be easily returned to stock condition.

I'm curious as to the reason for the swap I could see it if the gauges were full sweep but it looks like you're swapping one set for another almost identical set.

My original gauges are scrap. They are rusted internally, and the paint is peeling off the faces - obviously the car sat out in the rain for an extended period.

Restoring my gauges runs $100-200 each, depending on condition, and new gauges are $100 each. I could go for used gauges which seem to go for about $40 each, and hope they are not abused, or I could buy this set of four repops for $40 including shipping.

So for the price of one used gauge I can get four new gauges. Yeah, I have options, but new gauges for $40, well. I could not pass it up. Even if they are junk, I can always go used without feeling too bad.

Vance,

That's a deal that's hard to pass up and they look pretty close to original but that's an awful lot of gauges for only forty dollars. Definitely worth a shot though.

What about your Tach and Speedo?

I have just finished installing them in my binnacle. I have tested the voltmeter and it seems to work well.

Surprisingly, the original Tach and Speedo were in good shape, but there are repops available for those too. I repainted the original bezels, and wire brushed the outsides, they seem to be good to go. Will let you know when the car is running. At the rate I am going, it will be next summer before I have everything running.

The photo of speedo and tach repops is attached. They are also very inexpensive.

Vance,

Interesting but the speedo is kilometers and doesn't have a tripometer. Is that what you went with?

Not running until summer, I'm guessing you've got a lot of irons in the fire.

They have so many gauges listed, in so many styles I simply posted the first set I found. They offer Smiths repop MPH speedos as well, but without trip meters. They may have some styles that offer that feature, but they have over 900 products so I did not look very hard. They offer repops for Royal Enfields, BSA, etc. Crazy.

Here is the eBay store: Spare Parts 1990. Honestly, their stuff is so inexpensive I think most people would think it is a scam, especially since it all ships from outside the US (India).

I kept my original speedo and tach, they were in decent shape and cleaned up nicely.
