Hi JHPS enthusiats, I'm Brendan and live in Sierra Madre, CA. I have recently purchased a 1973 JH that appears very original but has a Judson "Electronic Magneto" mounted where the ignition coil usually goes. This thing looks like its from the 60s. That's a capacitive discharge ignition (CDI) coil replacement unit. They will produce a hotter spark. If it's not causing any problems, I'd leave it alone.

the capacitive discharge systems(like the Crane & Allison ones that were used on our cars) will not work well with the tachometer unless you modify it. That may not be important, but another problem with too large a voltage gain is the crossfiring you will get because of the narrow diameter of the distributor--anyone have any idea as to the maximum voltage gain allowable for our dizzys? Have no idea what voltage you may be producing, but the Pertronix with the standard dizzy work very well.
