Does any one have information on Borg & Beck pressure plates.ie. serial nos and torque rating. If the torgue rating is too low is it possible to modify the existing pressure plate

Malcolm, At 8-1/2" the JH clutch-plate is marginal for any high performance 9xx engine. However, it's more than adequate for a street car. If you are in need of something stronger, the later Esprits and Excels used a 9-1/2" clutch (I think) from the Toyota Supra. It wouldn't take much to machine your JH flywheel to accept the Toyota pressure-plate. The Toyota clutch-plate would be a natural fit if using the W58 transmission. Alternatively, companies like http://www.clutchnet.com can fabricate a custom plate for you. Judson

Hi Malcolm, I have the toyota supra 5sp gbox that came with the Lotus Excel including bellhousing. My new 907 (hybrid actually) engine is now equipped with the later leight weight steel flywheel and therefore I was looking for a 9.5" clutch and a 9.5" pressure plate. I know you are looking for a Borg & Beck... i believe Conversion Components sells the 8.5" pressure plates and from pictures i could tell they are from Borg & Beck. Ask for Colin, he can give you all the details. i have made some pictures of the Borg & Beck I ordered one day but which didn't fit my esprit flywheel... you can easily see the torque rating of it. It can be found on the http://www.jhppg.com . Go to the netherlands section (old zealand :) if you will) and then find the blue JH. You will find a special section containing pressure plates I finally ended up purchasing a true 9.5" pressure plate from Valeo for Lotus Esprit (buy them from Lotus and you pay 3 times as much!!) good luck Erik Harkes Last edited on 02-20-2007 03:32 pm by Harkes |

Hi Malcolm no worries. Here's the link http://jhppg.com/gallery/Clucth-Pressure-plate/Gearbox_conversion_049?full=1 Torque rating of my Delphi Borg & Beck pressure plate was: 6250 Diameter was ok for my esprit flywheel but the holes & dowels didn't line up. I ended up with a Valeo one which by the way has a higher torque rating (7000 something like that) By the way, you'll see a sticker with Sachs on it as well, that is because Sachs bought (took over) Delphi Borg & Beck hope this helps Erik Last edited on 02-21-2007 09:12 am by Harkes |

Harkes Excuse my ignorance this number you talk of is it a dimensionless number or can be rated back to the torgue rating of the motor regards Malcolm

it can/should be rated back to the TORQUE rating of your engine. there is a rather technical formula for this: http://www.advancedclutch.com/proveit/clutch101/clutch101-torque.asp But lotus engine experts such as Gary Kemp and others know almost exactly what amount of clamp force (torque) is necessary for your engine spec. hope this is of help
