I have acquired a new noise that has me worried. When pulling away from a stop there is a tinkeling sound like a fan hitting radiator fins. It goes away at higher RPMs. If I lurch the car with it in gear by rolling on and off the gas, it makes the noise the whole time. When the clutch is depressed there is no noise. I recently made the trek to the Monterey Historics which was about 250 miles round trip with no failures but the noise is getting a little worse. Any Ideas? Kurt Housh JH 13148 |

I had the same symptoms and heard the same noise in my 5 speed. If you have a 5 speed as well, then we probably have the same problem. Not too long after I heard the noise, I lost reverse. Refer to the "back to that 5 speed getrag repair" a couple of posts back as to resolving the issue. Judging by your VIN #, though,it looks like you've probably got the 4 speed. I'd say it's time for a tranny rebuild in any event. At least the 4 speed has all kinds of info as to rebuilding them and they're pretty easy to find.
