My head guy just got back to me with my flow data: Airflow Intake @ 10” .100 65cfm .200 126cfm .300 168cfm .400 176cfm .450 187cfm 28” .450 310cfm Exhaust @ 10” .100 57cfm .200 122cfm .300 140cfm .400 145cfm .450 149cfm 28” .450 240cfm on the inlet thats either a 36.8mm or a 38.25mm valve with a oversize seat. Exhaust is a 32mm

Very cool, you going to use a 104 cam? Mine only makes .420 lift. Can you get to .450? Do you need special valve springs? My head had some mystery Dave Bean springs and they were significantly fatter and bigger. I was enticed by Gary Kemp's titanium retainers and solid chrome moly bases. I think he has some uprated springs too. 2.4 liter and 10 to 1+ comp, will this make close to 275hp?

This has a pair of Garry Kemp "Custom Grind Cams" 283/272. The whole thing is based on a prescription from Kemp which unfortunately has taken about 3 years to get to this point (not Kemp's fault - but the engine was being built by John Edwards who sadly passed about 1/3rd into the project- I then had to get my parts from his sister (who inherited without any plan) and then had to find someone willing to takeover a partial project.. Springs/Seats/Valves/crank all sold by Kemp (including the rods and pistons) we need to swap the pistons because of a compression issue and have a set of custom ones made - but in theory with 48's the thought is that there maybe 265ish hp and at idle we may be making what the stock engine made as peak - time will tell. other good bits: nikasil liners below is the entire box of bits we got from Garry (plus the 910 block)

I asked the engine builder to measure the intakes and they are the 38mm ones.

Very cool, I looked at all of Kemp's stuff when I was thinking about building a monster. I run his belt tensioner kit and it's great stuff. Loved the idea of those I beam rods! I'm running the ARP studs as well. Just curious: why nikasil over the regular steel? Is the oil pump different from a stock setup?

So Kemp had purchased all the old surplus 2.2 turbo Mahle forged pistons and nikasil liners from Lotus The thought when he sold me everything was those pistons with the 2.4 stroker crank would give us the compression needed - so we bought in the crank, rods, pistons, liners. Then in our hiatus when I reached back to Kemp he said no the pistons won't work - not enough compression we tried it - failed to work. so given that I have the crank, the rods and the liners and crank were already fitted to the block - from that point I'm now stuck with the nikasil liners and I need new pistons (this is the long story alluded to earlier) The oil pump was sourced from Kemp and is high flow Back then I was a consultant working 60 hrs a week and had a little too much surplus cash.. the question was asked like this to Garry: "What can you possibly sell me to make an awesome engine (natural aspiration) - then after I got the list we asked again - are you sure there is nothing else.." that gig unfortunately disappeared - so we are not planning on injecting it anymore - 48's and done. - probably 1 more year - its technically my sons car and he is going slow - pacing the engine guy from what I can see.

There is another outfit in the uk called QED, they seem to have some kind of pistons I have not seen yet. Sounds like you are into some very custom territory, very cool project. I know how spare cash goes, I had more of it in the past as well!

Finished chamber - 0.010skim on a head of unknown provenance Chamber is 40cc 11.5-12cc for the gasket if our goal is 11:1 on a 2.4 we have 600cc/cylinder so if combustion chamber is 60cc then we have 660/60=11 so we need 60-40-11.5= 8.5cc of piston dish including the valve reliefs

My head is similarly decked very close to the valve seats, and it would not be able to be decked again. You going to clay the pistons to really see if it's kosher? Kind of a painstaking process but peace of mind..... I'm pretty sure the original builder of my engine did some work to make the valves a little thinner, meaning removing material from the face of the valve. I have an old spare stock head and the valves are thicker.
