Does anyone know the model number of the Getrag 5 speed transmission used on the later Jensen Healey? Is it an M51 or a 262 CR or something else? |

Jeff, The 5sp transmission used in the late JHs and GTs is NOT the Getrag 262CR used in European BMW 6xx series cars. It is also NOT the Getrag 265 used in BMW M3s and VERY few Lotus Eclat S2 2.2s. It IS however, the Getrag 235/5 optional close ratio transmission used in some BMW 2002s. For an in-depth discussion on this transmission: http://www.bimmers.com/02/faq/transmission.html Judson |

No problem Jeff....the intelligence (and stupidity) of people in large groups cannot be underestimated! If you are considering a swap to the 235/5 or trying to rebuild your own, I do applaud your decision to keep the car 'correct'. However, if you want something more robust, reliable and cost effective, the 4sp is pretty damn good (when rebuilt properly), followed closely by the Toyota W58 conversion. Both of which use Borg-Warner style synchros. The 235/5 is great on paper, however, the Porsche style synchros (and parts that are NLA) are it's downfall. Ron Earp will be giving us a first-hand report of how well his 235/5 does in competition. Personally I'm skeptical, but Ron will set the record straight! |

I just found out that the synchros that I need are available. It was a bit of a circuitous route, but I got the BMW part numbers from a guy in LA for the parts, called my local BMW dealer and he is ordering them. It should take about a week to get them in from Germany. FYI: 3rd gear synchro is part # 23231200774 4th gear synchro is part # 23231200737 Mitch - #19670 |

Hey Mitch, Was that guy an enthusiast or a company? I've been trying to find a Getrag parts catalog so that I can cross reference the Jensen part #'s to an OEM #. Jody |

http://www.2002ad.com the guy was really nice about looking up the part numbers. He had no idea that the 235/5 was used in any car other than the 2002. Mitch - #19670 |
