How do you get the bearing out, in order to remove the pinion gear? The service manual does not address this at all. |

The Haynes workshop manual for Vauxhall Viva 1970 to 1977 has a full chapter on how to re-build the rear ends, same as the JH's rear. Looks like you need to pull each axle and ring gear and it comes out the back. Brett |

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I need to get the speedo cable pinion gear out of the tailshaft of the 4-speed Chrysler transmission. The parts book shows a "bearing", part #93962. I have the cover (which receives the cable) off, and it has two tangs on the inside, which key into slots in the bearing. I've tugged on the pinion gear shaft, but nothing is moving. used a pair of needle nose pliers, worked it back and forth (turns out it is just a steel piece with a hole in the center) until it came out. My speedo cable pinion is just fine. The issue is the tailshaft has NO drive gear on it. So it looks like I drive it with no speedo until I feel like pulling the transmission out and hunting for 93130. |

As an FYI: there are GPS speedometers that operate independently of your transmission, or anything else for that matter. Pricey, but an option. |
