I've hit a few speed bumps in the engine swap, so I wonder if anyone could measure the following for me: - Distance from front right corner of oil pan (reservoir) to the adjacent rearwards strut on the crossmember. (Dipstick side) - How high does the top of the reservoir sit compared to the top of that rail? The JH sump does not fit with the Eclat oil pickup installed, since the piping interferes with the JH sump casting, even with middle baffle removed. Aaaargh! I may be saved by the bell if it is tight, since the Eclat reservoir has a slanted front wall. Anyone? I am hoping I won't have to lift the engine in just to find out it doesn't fit... -- Joachim

Hi Joachim, I measure 2cm from the front of the oil pan to the crossmember. The bottom of the oil pan is 2.5 cm below the bottom of the crossmember measured at the center. I hope this helps, Kurt

That sounds like the Lotus oil pan just might fit, I'll have a go tomorrow night. Tonight, Wife has arranged for a babysitter and wants to go to the movies. I have found a welder who does good alu work, so plan B is to cut a corner off the oil pan. I hope it won't be necessary. Swapping oil pickups means waiting for parts from abroad as well as quite a bit of work tearing down and reassembling, so I won't do that due to uncertainty of waiting for parts to arrive in time. -- Joachim

Jochaim, I don't think you'll get an Eclat sump into a Healey - I've been down this route myself in the past; the sides of a Healey sump are unequal width and the Eclat is the same both sides; so you would need to cut off one side of the eclat sump - then you would be short on oil capacity. Garry

Did a trial fit last night, I'll have to cut a corner off the Eclat sump. That will reduce oil capacity on the order of 0.1 liter, so that does not worry me. I think it may be possible to fit the engine with the oil pan unmodified, but there is very little room to manouvre, so lining up the engine and gear box would be a pain. -- Joachim

The aluminium specialist has now received the Eclat sump for modifying. Will get it back on Wednesday, he reckons it will take about one hour to cut and weld it. Hopefully it will be enough to modify it once... -- Joachim
