What do you guys recommend? Dry fit, glue one side, glue both sides? Dry fit seems to work fine in VW gearboxes and elsewhere, but I guess there would be reasons to glue the gaskets. Is Hylomar the glue of choice? -- Joachim |

Joachim, that would kind of depend on what gasket you are talking about, water pumps I do, valve covers I don't, exhaust header yes, head gasket no ......... Greg list's a bunch of compounds for sale in the Store, and if I remember correctly the area's for there use. Judson would probably be a great source for what to use where. Brett |

A colleague of mine who builds V8s occasionally swears by the blue Loctite (5926) stuff and don't use paper gaskets at all - unless thickness is significant. For the job at hand, we are talking about the water pump gasket and possibly the sump gasket. For the valve covers I have installed Greg's rubber gaskets, I hope the will keep the oil in. -- Joachim |

I have replaced the paper gaskets quite successfully with Loctite 574, if you are using them I would use wellseal on one side. Regards GARRY |
