The book says the engine need 20w50. My regular mechanic recently expressed his opinion that a synthetic blend 10w30 is a better choice. What's the word out there on oil options? |

20-50 for a regular engine that has some miles on it, new engine break in is another matter. Brett |

As I've said before, and without mentioning names, I was advised by several people who were involved in the design of the 900 that the only modern oil to use is Castrol Rs, and never to use Mobil 1. |

Sjensen, It's fun to learn about lubrication and the effect of viscosity on oil pressure and heat build-up. Your mechanic is technically correct but it's nothing to worry about for a street engine. http://www.jensenhealey.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=1186&forum_id=2&highlight=viscosity I use Valvoline VR1 20-50 which has the ZDDP and is available at my local auto parts store. I also use VR1, and I haven't had any problems with the oil inside the engine so far. My problem is all the VR1 I leave behind everywhere I go... |
