JH #19642 Engine No. B74 12 10 579 Purchased May 2015 in Sebastapol, CaThis car is no more. It burned in the Santa Rosa fire in Oct, of 2017 along with "Goldmember" Now in Santa Rosa, ca Donor car. Engine turns freely, car rolls, but is as much rust as good steel. 5 speed car with 75,000 original miles. Previous owner removed carbs 28 years ago to rebuild, and car has sat since. More than likely to be used as spare parts for 24 Hours of Lemons car "Goldmember" #907 Go to Old Crows Racing on Facebook. Not registered since 1988 or running. JH #12281, or most of her, is in my driveway on my trailer. 1973 JH Mk I. Will be scrapped after removal of the few good parts. No engine or transmission (actually there is a transmission in the boot, but I don't believe it actually goes with the car since it looks nothing like the Rootes transmission and has MOWOG stamped on it in a couple of places). Quick research implies that it might be an old MG transmission. I'll look further into that. Anyway, the rest of the car is exceedingly rusty. No floors to speak of, fenders are rusty in the usual spots, the bonnet is actually separated at the front. I was going to make the guy an offer for just the rear bumper (lots of surface rust but otherwise straight, including the stainless panel) and some electrical odds and ends, but decided just to bring the whole car home and remove everything of value, which isn't a whole lot. The dash has one small crack and is otherwise good, the gauges all look good, the headlight pods are ok other than paint (they are the square bottom ones), the original rocker switches and turn signal and wiper switches are there, glovebox is good, and the seats are surprisingly good (just a separated seam on the driver's seat) though they are black and I can't use them in Ms. Jenavieve since she has a tan interior. So, a couple of weekends removing stuff, and then off to the recycling yard she goes. If anyone is looking for Mk I "non-body" and "non-drivetrain" parts, ask since I may have something you can use. Otherwise I'll just hang on to them for now.

1972 MKI VIN# 10792 Is still almost completely rust free and living in the San Francisco, CA East Bay. I bought it a few years back and it already had a Ford 2.8L V6 installed by a previous owner which runs like a top. As a consequence, this early JH is taken out for drives more than once a week. I often drive it every day. I rewired it, built a custom steel dashboard, added Speedwell gauges, installed Fiero seats, LeCarra wheel, new carpeting, custom door panels, aluminum radiator, air dam etc... I have 10571 (driver) I can't find the engine # yet. Is has about 43,737, man. Date 11/9/72. My parts car is #14518 (never see the road again). Engine #B73 11 4621, mileage 88937 (188937?), man date 23/11/73. How can you tell if they are a matching #s car?

JH# 16501. Is now running a 202ci Holden 6 with a W50 Toyota 5 speed - according to engineer's report was converted in 1991. The car has been off the road for about 10 years, but just seems to need the clutch hydraulics rebuilt & basic fluid changes. Holden motor runs nicely & has receipts for full reco & some performance mods. Should be back on the road shortly :)

Hi, New Member, and Expat Brit, living in Central NJ. A couple of weeks ago I bought a Yellow 1974 JH. VIN is 14664, Engine No. D907E-0050Y (though the D may be a 0). The plate on the driver's door shows VIN 19742, so I guess that was sourced from a donor car at some point. There is also a ID of BB279 stamped on the upper engine block near the fuel intakes. The car is in good to excellent condition, and is running Dellorto carburetors, which are new to me. Every gauge and light seems to work, save for the clock, but I have not really had chance to look at everything yet. Some surface rust around the wheels, but that's it. I have invoices totalling ~$32,000 going back to 1988, including a full respray in 2006, and a couple of full engine overhauls. She seems to have lived in CO, FL, NY and NJ according to the state registration documents that were included in the paperwork I was given. Welcome to the group, I can guarantee you will find this site helpful in figuring out the eccentricities of these cars. Myself, I have been become quite good at chasing down the many oil leaks that spring up weekly! Ken

Ken, Thanks - so far I've only noted some minor spotting, and only after longish drives, once the oil system has got properly warmed up. Certainly a lot better than my Spitfire! Figure I'll chase that down when she needs to have an oil change. Stuart

Q. What does it mean when a Jensen Healey stops leaking oil? A. It's out of oil. Seriously, I don't think there is such a thing as a leak free British car of the era. I belong to the local British car club, and we have a very nice clubhouse/showroom where several members (including myself) park their cars over the winter. It's so funny to see... 30 to 40 British cars, not just LBCs but also Rolls Royces, Morgans, Jaguar saloons, etc. most in gorgeous condition, all shiny and perfect and exotic looking, probably well over a million dollars worth of cars. And EVERY one of them has an oil-soaked sheet of cardboard on the floor underneath the engine. EVERY one.

Upgraded my JH to a full 2.2 conversion. I did "have" leaks from the cam towers, but put a proper torque on them and the leaks are gone. Have had a pan under the car for 3 years now and not a drop. Same on our 24 Hours of Lemons race car that just won class at Thunderhill in California. Had to do the towers twice to get the gasket properly seated and now no leaks. Do have a rear seal leak but it's pretty minor. 74 2.2 JH 5 speed.

Time, Service bulletin's don't call for a gasket any longer, as long as the oil passage has the O-ring groove in the tower gasket compound is recommended. Then of course if missing the gasket you then need to shim the valve's as well to compensate. But then again if it don't leak , don't muck with it....... Brett
