I've seen several photos showing a small chrome knob on the hood of LHD GTs, located just behind the windscreen washer jet. This knob is not present on RHD GTs (certainly not on mine). Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the chrome knob does? Attachment: GG GT hood topside.jpg (Downloaded 76 times)

Hi Nigel, I have it on mine but it's in front of the windscreen washer - does not seem to do anything it's just bolted through. Perhaps an alternative position for the jet? Gordon

Just a guess, but perhaps it's there to create a little turbulence in the slipstream to help disperse the spray from the windscreen washer jet. Regards, Tim Engel

I think the JH hood had a hole there for the squirter. Since the GT had the squirter moved more forwards, that chrome button merely sealed the original JH hole.....both cars used the same hood, you see. Frank

My GT only has one hole in the bonnet. Maybe it’s a replacement J-H bonnet or maybe the chrome knob only appeared on later cars (mine is 30071)? I can’t see any reference to the knob in the GT parts book either...

Frank's correct; the GT has 2 holes in it: one about 7 1/2" from the edge for the Healey, and the GT a little farther forward. The "cheap"/easy fix was to put the chrome hemisphere where the original nozzle went

I’ve also seen a GT with washer jets in both holes, presumably to increase the amount of water that hits the screen. Interesting that most RHD GTs only seem to have one hole - the two hole bonnets seem to be mainly US cars

My RHD GT has only the jet, no second hole or chrome knob. Maybe the wind 'n water swirls a different way depending on which side of the car the driver sits...! That said, I am now curious; when I get home I'll measure the distance from the windscreen of my J-H and the GT and see if there's any difference.

Well, just measured them both - there is no difference in the position between my early-ish J-H Mk1 and my GT (which is 30305). They are both 19cm (7 1/2" on the old Imperial scale) from the edge of the bonnet (hood :) ). Nor is there any sign of a hole that might have been filled on either...
