How can I get a VIN from the California DMV if I know the license number?

I know the license number of my first Jensen Healey but I don't seem to have any record of the VIN at all (I thought I did, but apparently those records got destroyed). I know the license number (482 KIN) and the DMV certainly knows what the VIN of that car was. But I can't figure out how to ask them (every mechanism I've seen requires one to know both the license plate number AND the last few digits of the VIN) to get a vehicle record.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
