An update of stuff originally posted on the old board, re-posted here per Greg Fletcher's comments elsewhere on this board.  Information is believed reliable but use it at your own risk.
======================================

NOTE ON MATERIALS:

Fuel- and Oil-resistant: Buna-N (nitrile) is the usual choice. This material WILL NOT WORK FOR LONG with brake fluid.

Brake fluid-resistant: Perfluoro-elastomer or Ethylene Propylene (EP) may be acceptable, depending on what other fluids are likely to be encountered.  For high-temp environments, Viton may be the only suitable material but has a limited lifespan.  None of these materials is inexpensive.  Consult your supplier.

DANGER:  Choose your suppliers carefully!  I have had very poor luck with o-rings from Mainland China, which apparently have a service life best measured in hours rather than months or years.  Sudden O-ring failures can result in lethal disasters.

 ======================================

DISTRIBUTOR EXTERNAL O-RING

Material: Fuel- and Oil-resistant.

Used on: Lucas 23D, 25D distributors.

Comments: AS568A-010, 0.239" ID, 0.070" thick, seems a bit small on ID and OD but might work for a while.  I purchased a bag of these (in EP) a while back but have yet to try them out.  I'm willing to give away pairs of these o-rings to anyone willing to try them out.  If you're seriously interested, send me an email and I'll give you an address to which you can send a SASE.  No charge, but I'd like to know how things work out.  The offer will expire if I should ever run low on the o-rings.

I know the nitrile is the usual choice, but I prefer the Class 1, military grade Viton o-rings- they have exceptional chemical and oil resistance. Temperature range is -15° to +400°  F. These do not fall apart from contact with oil. What ever you do, void the stuff from China, you can't be sure of the quality.

I'm working on a selection of premium quality, Viton o-rings for the JH to be available in the Club Store soon.

Hi Greg,

  While looking over these old posts, I noticed that you were going to offer Jensen Healey O-rings through the Club Store.  Are they available?  I am currently looking for the two small cam tower O-rings and the distributor O-ring.  I am hestitant to go to the local hardware store for these.

Ed
