I am struggling with uploading images to the forum. I edit .jpg and .png files in Microsoft Paint, resizing them to around 280 x 190 pixels so they are small enough to meet the 102 kB forum upload limit. But these resized images appear on my posts so small that they're almost impossible to see. Other posters seem to be able to post much larger photos. What am I doing wrong? Any advice greatly appreciated... Last edited on 07-31-2015 11:03 pm by NigelK |

The 102kB limit is the size of the file on the disk, not the number of pixels. Formats like JPG do a good job of compressing the data, so picture sizes of around 700 x 700 pixels should be under the limit. This varies depending on the picture. More complex and detailed pictures usually do not compress down quite as well as simple ones. Reducing the number of colors also reduces the file size, sometimes by a large factor. You can check the file size using Windows explorer. Some image viewing and editing software will also show the file size. |

Thanks Tom. Changing from .png to .jpg file format made a huge difference - I can now get under the 102.4kB file size limit but still have images greater than 500 x 500 pixels. I have just re-posted all my images... |

Better yet, don't use image attachments at all. I use Photobucket to host all my images, then add them by means of [img] tags. No image size limit, no limit on the number of images in a single message, no fuzz. -- Joachim |

Thanks Joachim. Photobucket I have used before. How do the [img] tags work? Do you paste the relevant photobucket url between the [img] tags? |

When viewing single images in Photobucket, there is a list called "Share links" to the right. Click on the IMG link (it should be automagically copied to your clipboard), then simply paste into the message you are editing. Simple as pie! -- Joachim |

Thanks Joachim. I've just re-edited some of my posts as you instructed... |
