I can't believe it worked at all. I have no idea why this problem would manifest itself just when I changed the transmission oil. I could not move the cable *at all* within the housing by hand. I soaked it in penetrating lubricant and got it moving with some tightness but much better. I also have some additional information on using Royal Purple MTL in the 4-speed transmission. I called Royal Purple directly and talked to a very knowledgeable 'tech support' engineer. He advised that while Royal Purple MTL is 'OK' in our older transmission they do not recommend it. The MTL product is too light for older transmissions and is likely to leak while not providing any real benefit. He recommended using their synthetic 10W-40 motor oil in this case. This time I just took Kurt's advice and used Valvoline VR1 20W 50. On the Road Again! Last edited on 01-31-2010 12:39 am by SpeedyMitch |
