Lads: Well, using 7/8" brass freeze plugs with some Permatex #2 sealant did the trick, no more coolant leaks. Yippee! My plan to cobble together a temporary exhaust from the scraps of the original didn't work. The original had fallen off the car and was dragging on the ground when the car was delivered. Turns out it was pretty badly bent, and my attempts to rehang it came to naught, as I couldn't get clearance to the drive shaft. Sigh. The fuel pump was acting up, and it is a brand new Hardi. One of the sealing washers was loose (even the Germans screw up their quality, it seems) and the pump could not build up pressure to throttle the pumping rate. Fixed now. I had a large oil leak from the oil cooler hoses at the engine. I had not tightened down one of the hoses, so the fix was straightforward. What was not simple was reinstalling the intake silencer - the threads pulled out on BOTH captive nuts on the inner fender. Turns out there was only about 1 thread left in both of them. I drilled them out and put in two rivnuts instead. So I will not have any more issues there. So just yesterday I tried to start it, and it did start and ran for a few seconds, albeit roughly. It was spitting back through the carbs, so the timing is clearly way off. Adjusting the timing is such a pain in the tuchus as the dizzy kept popping out. Grr. No way around it, I am going to be bent over the engine bay for a while trying to get the timing straightened out. I purchased a remote starter switch to make things a bit easier, but still. After I get it running, I need to reinstall the hood (bonnet) and get the front end aligned. Then off to DMV to get it registered. I will be using Hagerty to insure it.
