 Disco: sorry you've had such a difficult time with the airbox.
On the Huffaker race car, they built a very large aluminum box with a 4" duct going up to the front cowling. This would give a somewhat "high pressure" area with very little turbulence, somewhat like the Lotus setup but with a much larger airbox. The top was hinged so either long or short trumpets could be changed easily.
