POR15, KBS, Mastercoat ( http://www.masterseriescoatings.com/index/products/primer/ ) will work just fine even on heavily pitted and "holey" tanks. They are easy to use so you can do it yourself. Not sure what your radiator shop did but they should certainly guarantee it. I've seen POR even fill up "quarter" size holes(putting tape on the back for leveling) with no problems. If the leak is around the sending unit flange, using Permatex #2 or equivalent will seal that up fine
