The car was new to me so I had a mechanic who owned a JH do the job. He just used a J hook or needle nose plyers and pulled the old one out. The parts catalogue has a good picture of how everthing fits together. I don't know if the repair manual decribes replacing cam seals. The cam seal itself has a thin metal shell with an inner rubber part that is the seal. It is sort of like a fancy "O" ring.
